教育 : 薬学における高度な職業人を育成するには, 専門分野や手法にとらわれない領域横断的な教育が必要だと思います. タンパク質のはたらきを構造から理解する構造生物学は, 生物, 物理, 化学の融合した学際的な学問です. 構造生物学をとおして, 幅広い視野を持ち, 個性と多様性を備えた指導的人材を育成したいと思っています.
研究 : DNAの二重螺旋を発見したFrancis Crickは, ”If you want to understand function, study structure.”と言っています. 生命活動の主役であるタンパク質の「かたち」を調べて, その「はたらき」を理解し, さまざまな生命現象や疾患のメカニズムを明らかにしていきたいと思っています.
